In 2008 the Chinese Milk Scandal affected an estimated amount of 300,000 victims with six infants dying from kidney stones and other kidney damage. These infants were fed on milk powder. the government investigated and found out that over 21 other companies this problem existed too. This chemical appeared to be added to milk to cause it to appear to have a higher protein content.

In China McDonald's and KFC faced a new food safety claiming that a supplier sold them expired beef and chicken. The companies responded by immediately stopped using meat. Authorities had ordered the supplier to suspend operations and were investigating. it was said that they repackaged stale beef and chicken and put new expiration dates on them.
